Wakeboard champions splash it up in Helena MT
Some world class athletes made their way to Montana for some water sports. The News Station's Kay Rossi reports from Hauser Lake where Big Sky Sports and Ronix Wake Boards are bringing world-class action sports to Helena.
Big Sky Sports and Ronix Wake Boards teamed up to bring two nationally-recognized wakeboarding champions to Montana on Tuesday: National Wakeboard Champion Adam Errington, and Wakeboard World Series 2nd-ranked Dean Smith.
The one-day clinic allowed local Helena wakeboarders a chance to get tips from the pros and see demonstrations of gear that won't even come out until next year.
Simon Elston, owner of Big Sky Sports, said, "We generally try and expose Helena to something that usually doesn't happen here."
The pros have been wakeboarding at similar clinics across the country as part of their "Five Gallons to Freedom" summer tour.
Smith explained, "I love it. Doing a tour like this is fun because you get to do a lot of places and lakes, and coming to the U.S....this is my first time here, and so far...it's beautiful!"
Errington echoed his sentiments: "It's really cool, definitely humbling...just getting to wake board and having people look up to you."
Shea Doerfler, an aspiring 19-year old wakeboarder, was impressed: "I've only ever seen them on TV. It's so weird seeing them out, riding right now doing those tricks when I can only dream about doing them."
While wakeboarding is still a fairly new sport, both Adam and Dean have plenty of experience to pass on to aspiring riders.
But to the folks watching their display, it appears that just having them around is an inspiration all it's own.
The two pros will head to Idaho next and will then wrap up their summer tour in Salt Lake City.
